The Astrology Collection

There is a certain magic about the beach that seems to intensify at night – the warm, salty air mixes with the golden-violet glow of the setting sun to create a sensory experience that’s really one-of-a-kind. I have always loved spending time by the ocean during sunset and after dark, especially when the skies are clear and the moon and stars light up the night with their pale glow. Reflecting on the constellations and knowing that others have done the same for thousands of years makes me feel intimately connected to both the earth and sky. For this reason, I have created a meaningful new set of coastally-inspired keepsakes: the Astrology Collection. Learn more about this exciting new collection in this guide!

A balanced Collection

For as long as I can remember, I’ve been a stargazer. When I was young, my parents used to take me to Cape Cod, where I would sit with them on Marconi Beach in the dead of night and count the stars and satellites passing overhead. As I began to memorize the constellations, I also loved to learn about the traditions and lore behind each one. This study, of course, led me to astrology, and I became enthralled. As a Gemini, my curiosity and creativity ultimately brought me not only to the jewelry world, but also to this moment, where I am delighted to share my love and appreciation of the zodiac with you. Here are some of my favorite things about the Astrology Collection:

  • Our pieces are designed to showcase the beauty of every zodiac sign.

  • High-quality, eco-friendly metals highlight the beauty of each design.

  • This collection celebrates astrology, tarot, and other mystical elements.

  • Elegant opal accents enhance the design of every piece.

  • Every keepsake comes with a durable, attractive stainless steel chain.

Embrace who you are.

Our Favorite Material: Opal

As I was designing the Astrology Collection, I knew I would need to find a way to make our pieces stand out. I considered a range of different materials, but I ultimately settled on the gemstone that has a special place in my heart: blue opal. Blue opal is radiant, multifaceted, and iridescent – when hit with light, it glows in a way unlike any other stone. Its deep blue colors echo both the sea and the sky, but its opalescence shines like the twinkling stars at night. Here is a bit more about this unique gemstone:

Composition

Here at GoBeachy, we use a signature version of lab-created blue opal in many of our pieces. While true opal occurs naturally, synthetic opal is created in a laboratory setting. Both types of opal are composed of silica, which provide the stone with its unique aesthetic properties. Synthetic opal resembles genuine opal almost identically in its appearance, structure, and physical properties. Also known as “lab-grown” or “cultured opal,” synthetic opal can be very difficult to distinguish from natural opal, even for seasoned gemologists!

Appearance

Opals come in a variety of colors, but our proprietary GoBeachy tone is a deep, fiery blue. When looking at a piece of opal jewelry, its colors often seem iridescent – they appear to glow and change as light touches its surface from different angles. Both natural and synthetic opals exhibit this remarkable trait known as “play of color.” Light travels through the opal’s millions of silica spheres and becomes diffracted; this results in the gem’s hallmark rainbow-like appearance. Our shimmering blue opals are elegant and refined.

Care & Cleaning

When cleaning synthetic opal jewelry, use a damp soft cloth and a mild soap. While natural opal can withstand submersion in water, avoid dunking synthetic opal for any duration – it is made of several layers of silica that are adhered together, and water can seep in between the layers, dulling its sparkling appearance over time. Be sure to avoid ultrasonic cleaners for this same reason, as the vibrations from the mechanism can cause water penetration into the stone.

Always remove opal jewelry before exercising, showering, swimming, or doing household chores. Chemicals and prolonged exposure to water can damage the stone’s surface. When storing synthetic opal jewelry, place it in a soft bag. Unlike natural opal, which actually needs to be stored in a somewhat humid environment, synthetic opal can be stored safely in a jewelry box without additional considerations.

Coastal elegance at its finest.

Behind the Collection: Finding Meaning

The real inspiration behind this collection lies in the unique characteristics of each sign in the zodiac. Knowing the qualities of our sign allows us to better understand ourselves and the world around us while also honoring both our strengths and our weaknesses. Here is a bit about each of the twelves signs:

Aries

March 21 - April 19

As the first sign of the zodiac, Aries are often powerful, courageous, and confident. Symbolized by a ram, this sign often exudes a competitive nature, a strong personality, and the ability to make big decisions. Aries can also be impulsive, diving head first into both good and bad situations. Aries are known for their power and passion.

Taurus

April 20 - May 20

The Taurus, represented by a bull, is widely regarded as stable, stubborn, and reliable. Those born under this sign are often the responsible ones, acting as the voice of reason in challenging situations. Taurus seek out beauty, truth, and love, which can sometimes make them possessive or superficial. They are grounded, practical, and hard-working.

Gemini

May 21 - June 20

Gemini is the first air sign in the zodiac, and they are widely known for their intensity and emotions. Represented by twins, Gemini often feel both the highs and lows of life acutely -- they may be happy and easygoing one moment, yet serious and brooding the next. Those born under this sign are often expressive, creative, and innovative.

Cancer

June 21 - July 22

Cancer, symbolized by the crab, is a deeply-feeling water sign. Cancers are often intuitive, sentimental, sensitive, and loyal, caring passionately about those closest to them. They are also imaginative and sympathetic, making them reliable friends and excellent listeners. Cancers often rely on their tough shell to protect their feelings and well-being, which can make them tenacious or moody.

Leo

July 23 - August 22

As a fire sign, the Leo is naturally strong, bold, and daring. Represented by a lion, Leos are confident, dramatic, and warm-hearted -- they are often of the life of the party and make interpersonal interactions seem effortless. The confidence of the Leo can sometimes lean towards arrogance and inflexibility, but their generosity and humor usually make up for it.

As an air sign, the Libra often tries to stay above the drama and find justice whenever possible. They may seem indecisive, but once they have arrived at a decision, they don't typically waver.

Scorpio

October 23 - November 21

Scorpios, represented by the scorpion, are some of the most intense, intuitive, and passionate folks who walk among us. Instead of finding energy from external interactions, they often turn inward to reflection and imagination. Echoing the melancholy tones of autumn, Scorpios can be moody and stubborn, but they are also extremely loyal and committed to their beliefs.

Aquarius, represented by the water bearer symbol, are original forward thinkers who focus on making progress. Aquarius can be emotional, but they also care deeply about those around them. They are independent and don't take well to instruction, as they thrive off of exploring ideas and concepts on their own. Aquarius walk through life inspired, and they bring unique perspectives to social, romantic, and professional situations.

Pisces

February 19 - March 20

As one of the most emotional water signs in the zodiac, Pisces are known for their deep feelings and romanticism. Represented by a fish, this sign is sensitive, creative, and imaginative, often possessing the ability to make friends and charm others. They are very fluid and adaptive, allowing them to easily maneuver in most social situations. They are flexible, but they can also be withdrawn and moody when navigating their own emotional worlds.
